McLaren is set to link with V8 Supercars squad Tekno Autosports for a factory backed assault on February’s Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour.
The British marque is poised to announce its attack on the GT endurance classic, for which the full field of entries will be released later today.
Tekno will help run the team at Bathurst, having developed links with McLaren through driver Shane van Gisbergen and team manager Steve Hallam.
Despite having driven his last V8 Supercars race for Tekno earlier this month, factory McLaren driver Van Gisbergen is expected to be among the driving line-up.
The Kiwi won two Blancpain Endurance Series races this season with McLaren squad Von Ryan Racing, which is thought to be supplying the machinery for the Bathurst campaign.
A factory campaign marks an uplift in McLaren’s Bathurst involvement, which last year saw it dispatch driver Kevin Estre to steer Tony Quinn’s customer entry.
Quinn is again set to field his own McLaren, while Tony Walls adds a further customer car to the race.
McLaren will join Bentley and Nissan in fielding full works entries at Bathurst next year.
In a repeat of 2015, Bentley will campaign two factory Continental GT3s while reigning winners Nissan will enter a sole GT-R GT3.
Mercedes-Benz will meanwhile return as the official Safety Car provider, as well as having a significant off-track presence.
Approximately 30 GT3 cars are expected to front for the February 5-7 event, matching that seen this year.
